According to data from JATO Dynamics, a total of 181,300 units were registered in Europe in October.
October marked a new monthly record for the sale of electric vehicles in Europe. All this, despite the microchip crisis and the uncertainty generated by the arrival of the new variants of the pandemic. Specifically, the BEV and PHEV registered a total of 181,300 units. A figure that represents 22.9% of the market, according to the automotive information provider, JATO Dynamics.
By makes and models, the Ford Kuga led the PHEVs with 3,778 units, while the Renault ZOE led the BEV sales with 6,438 vehicles.
As for diesel vehicles, their behavior in Europe has been the opposite of the upward trend of electric vehicles. Its sales have accounted for 19% of the market in October.
“As we saw during the pandemic, the current crisis has proven to be more of an opportunity than a threat to the developing electric vehicle market. COP 26 marked a significant turning point for the industry, as 24 countries and 11 OEMs pledged to stop producing ICE vehicles by 2040. The shift towards electric vehicles will only accelerate further in the coming years. ” , explained the Global Analyst of JATO Dynamics, Felipe Muñoz.
Volkswagen loses the lead
By brands, Volkswagen lost its leadership position in October, which was replaced by Stellantis, who has inaugurated this position since it was created in early 2021.
The German group Volkswagen suffered a 42% drop in volume. Compact and midsize vehicles have been the worst hit segments.
In terms of segments, SUV recorded a market share of 46.8% in October. The demand for these vehicles is gaining strength depending on the new models that the brands are taking out.
