Frankfurt Daimler’s car subsidiary Mercedes-Benz plans to invest more than 60 billion euros over the next five years. The supervisory board had passed a corresponding business plan for 2022 to 2026, the carmaker announced on Thursday. The focus will be on electrification, digitization and automated driving.
At the same time, Mercedes-Benz reaffirmed the return targets that have been in place for over a year. Accordingly, in normal times an operating margin in the low to mid single-digit percentage range should be achieved, in good times a double-digit return on sales.
After the spin-off from Daimler Truck, Mercedes-Benz will concentrate on growth and profitability in the car and van business. Mercedes wants to become the leading manufacturer of electric drives and vehicle software. “Our goal is technology leadership in the automotive luxury segment and premium vans. We remain committed to our ambitious margin targets, ”explained Daimler boss Ola Källenius.
