Munich It was almost exactly a year ago. The approximately 170,000 employees of Daimler in Germany were already longing for the Christmas holidays when the two most important board members of the car manufacturer pondered a step that would change everything in Stuttgart.
During the informal conversation, Daimler CEO Ola Källenius and CFO Harald Wilhelm quickly agreed: The days of the conglomerate are numbered. The two managers decided in secret to split the Dax group into two parts: the business with cars and vans and that with trucks and buses.
