The Weld Legacy trail this month received a donated bench for visitors, walkers and bikers to sit and enjoy a beautiful view of a pond, St. Vrain State Park and Longs Peak.
The Weld Legacy trail goes from the Weld County Southwest Service Center into St. Vrain State Park. The formal donation acceptance of the bench took place on Dec. 15 at the board of county commissioners’ meeting.
On Dec. 17, Weld County Commissioners Scott James and Lori Saine attended an on-site presentation, which allowed them to experience one of the best seats in the county, according to a board’s release.
Debra Brodhead, Chapter Regent for the Carbon Valley Chapter of the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution and other representatives –– Chapter Registrar Esther DeManche, Chapter Treasurer Amy Lister and Chapter Vice Regent Connie Masson –– formally presented the bench and certificate to Weld County.
A handful of Town of Mead employees attended the presentation, including Recreation Coordinator Kaley Hein, Town Manager Helen Migchelbrink and Mayor Colleen Whitlow.
The donation of the bench was made possible with help of the Weld County Sheriff’s Office, the Southwest Weld County Motor Vehicle Office and the Town of Mead, according to the release. As well as, numerous people who assisted the Carbon Valley Chapter in the collection of 500 pounds of plastic film within six months in order to receive a free bench from the NEXTREX Community Challenge.
The Carbon Valley Chapter of the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution served as the community coordinator and donated the TREX bench to the county.
