The lack of car parts because of the Ukraine war is slowing down production at Mercedes-Benz. For the plant in Sindelfingen, partial short-time work has been applied for, the company said on Tuesday. The “Wirtschaftswoche” reported about it first. The shift plan had to be adjusted.
In part, the reduced need for workers can therefore be regulated using working time instruments. It remains unclear whether entire shifts will be eliminated and how many employees will be temporarily suspended. Other car manufacturers have also stopped production because, for example, there are no power cable networks made in Ukraine.
The plants of Mercedes-Benz ran “almost” unrestricted worldwide, the car manufacturer explained. Due to the lack of components from Ukraine, suppliers relocated production to other locations. The automotive supplier Leoni, a specialist in wiring harnesses, had announced that it would relocate production, which was stagnant in the Ukraine, to another location.
