BMW prepares the premiere of the new 7 Series. The upcoming flagship will be presented after Easter and will go on sale shortly before the end of the year. The manufacturer announced this on the sidelines of prototype drives in Munich.
BMW has not yet named any prices. But in view of the current tariffs and the new model structure, it can be assumed that the 7 Series will start in six figures in the future. It is not for nothing that the Bavarians want to delete the previous standard version and only offer the luxury sedan with a long wheelbase.
And even that they have stretched again for the generation change, so that the 7er will measure almost 5.40 meters in the future. For the developers, the latest generation of the luxury liner represents the technological upheaval in the horsepower industry. BMW wants to counter this with a dual strategy: for the first time, the 7 Series will be available either as a combustion engine or as a purely electric car. A plug-in hybrid is also planned.

And unlike Mercedes with the S-Class and EQS, for example, the Bavarians want to play both worlds with a model that is otherwise technically identical and also differs only marginally in design.

BMW is still frugal with technical details. However, on the sidelines of the test drives, it was announced that the Stromer called i7 will have all-wheel drive with two motors with a combined output of around 404 kW/550 hp. The battery with more than 100 kWh should ensure a range of over 600 kilometers. It is charged with up to 200 kW, so that – assuming the charging technology – the electricity flows for a good 100 kilometers within ten minutes.
Those who do not yet want to rely entirely on e-mobility can count on several variants of a plug-in drive, which are expected to have an electric range of around 100 kilometers. BMW is also planning six- and eight-cylinder petrol engines and a six-cylinder diesel, but does not want to offer all engines in all sales regions.
Prepared for autonomous driving
Regardless of the motorization, BMW is continuing to drive digitization forward. This is evident in the interior with a fully animated cockpit in the style of the iX and a cinema screen for the rear that folds out of the ceiling at the touch of a button. The 7 Series is the first model from Munich to be equipped for Level 3 autonomous driving.
