España, en los últimos puestos respecto a registro de vehículos eléctricos e infraestructura de recarga

Sales of electric vehicles increase significantly while charging infrastructure remains poor, according to a European index.

Electric vehicles are increasingly popular among consumers who are committed to more sustainable mobility while saving on costs. According to the latest LeasePlan index on the preparation of electric vehicles at a European level, sales of electric vehicles are increasing, but there are not enough recharging infrastructures for them.

This index analyzes the registration of electric vehicles, the maturity of the infrastructure and the incentives offered by the Government in each country. The sample consists of 22 countries among which Norway stands out that is very prepared in terms of electric mobility. The second place in this index is occupied by the Netherlands, followed by the United Kingdom. On the contrary, those countries with less presence of electric vehicles are Romania; Slovakia; Czech Republic; and Poland in descending order.

For its part, Spain occupies one of the last positions regarding the registration of electric vehicles; the maturity of the electric vehicle infrastructure; and government incentives, according to the index.

How to alleviate the lack of infrastructure for electric vehicles

Electric vehicles are gaining ground in the minds of consumers and this LeasePlan index demonstrates this, but the lack of recharging facilities is, on many occasions, a barrier when it comes to increasing sales of this type of vehicle. Tex Gunning, CEO of LeasePlan notes that the government’s lack of action on electric vehicle infrastructure is causing a shortage in charging across Europe as sales in this category increase.

Likewise, it takes the opportunity to conclude that “this report should be a wake-up call for policymakers across Europe: urgent investment in a comprehensive European charging infrastructure is needed now more than ever, since this type of vehicle is one of the the most effective ways to fight climate change”.
