Las matriculaciones de turismos en Europa caen un 12,3% en el primer trimestre de 2022

In the first three months of the year, 2,245,976 units were sold in the European Union.

Without a doubt, the automotive sector has not started the year as expected. The figures of sales remain well below the expected level. At the end of the first quarter, the ACEA has presented the results of passenger car registrations. The balance, as expected, has not been positive. Enrollments have fallen by 12.3% in the first quarter of 2022.

Specifically, according to the results presented, new car registrations fell by 12.3% compared to the same period of the previous year. A total of 2,245,976 new passenger cars are recorded. The four main EU markets experienced declines: Italy (-24.4%), France (-17.3%), Spain (-11.6%) and Germany (-4.6%).

Especially negative has been the month of March. In March 2022, passenger car registrations in the European Union continued to decline (-20.5%), with only 844,187 units sold. And what is the reason for this situation? From ACEA they explain that the continuous interruptions of the supply chain, further exacerbated by the Russian invasion of Ukraine, are negatively affecting the production of automobiles and, therefore, sales.

The best-selling brands so far this year

According to ACEA, Volkswagen was the brand that sold the most vehicles so far in 2022. Specifically, 266,830 units, a 19.9% decrease. Behind is Toyota, with 186,128 units, 1.1% more; Peugeot, with 163,096 units, 24.2% less; Mercedes-Benz, with 157,014 units, 10.5% less; and BMW, with 156,824 units, 14.1% less.

The United Kingdom also lowers its figures

On the other hand, the United Kingdom registered a fall of 14.3% in March, which in the whole of the first three months is reduced to a 1.9% drop.
