Ford focuses on middle mile in autonomous transportation

The manufacturer Ford and its startup Argo AI want to take on the middle mile.

Cargo shipments are divided into three sections: the first, middle and last mile. The last mile means delivery to customers, the middle mile to the distribution center before and the first mile is from production to the distribution center for the second leg.

The manufacturer ford now wants to focus more on automated freight, because that is the current one Trend: autonomous trucks, which not only compensate for the shortage of workers, but also reduce costs by eliminating a salary and increase effectiveness by eliminating human needs such as sleep or holidays.

Along with Argo AI and one works on autonomous driving, whereby one had previously focused on the robot taxi. This is currently changing and so there are not only pilot tests with delivery on the last mile, but also on the middle mile. The CEO Farley speaks in this context of a strategic change. Customers are more interested in that.

In addition, one is open to further cooperations, such as those with lyft for the ride-hailing program in Miami and Austin or whatever Walmart for food deliveries.
