Less than a decade ago, BMW was still considered a great pioneer in terms of electromobility in this country. In fact, in 2013, with the i3, the Munich-based company was the first German vehicle manufacturer to put an electric vehicle into series production. To date, BMW has sold more than a quarter of a million units of the model. In July, however, the make is discontinued.
This worries some shareholders. While competitors such as Mercedes-Benz, Audi, Volvo and Jaguar either want to sell only or almost exclusively electric cars by the end of the decade, BMW consistently refuses to quickly switch to selling diesels, petrol engines and plug-in hybrids to renounce.
