Free Practices
Free Practice One was a learning experience for us because there was a new BoP.
We had to adjust the car to use that new BoP. We had a few issues, but we figured out what they were using the full power we were granted. Now I think we can fully utilize the BoP we were given. We hope to be a little quicker today.
But that said, I think everybody uses Free Practice One as a way to test the setup of the car, to have the drivers familiarize themselves with the track and the car. I don’t really read much into it in terms of the speeds that we went or that other teams went.
It was very exciting to see the Peugeot. It’s an interesting car with a design that does not use a traditional rear wing. It’s a very daring bit of engine engineering. And at Monza, it seemed to work very well.
I don’t think the issues they had were related to the design of the car; they were the teething problems of any new car, and they’ll fix that, and it’ll be fantastic to race against them.
Free Practice Two went very well. We were figuring out how our tires would hold up. We did 48 laps, which is a lot, and we went through the whole range of tire degradation. In the end, we pushed a little bit just to see how fast we could be. We were very happy with our performance. We wound up first in FP3, but the practice is not the race. We’re optimistic but we’re cautiously optimistic. We’re also realistic that we have a mountain to climb. To even be in the same sentence with Toyota, Alpine and Peugeot, for a little company like ours is mind-boggling.
About 6 Hours of Monza
Developing our hypercar is an ongoing process. After every race, we look very carefully at all the data that we gathered during the race. We debrief the drivers, we debrief the team, we study how our pit strategy worked, how our tire strategy worked, and we hope to use that data to improve. It’s fair to say that over the two years we’ve been racing, we’ve made a lot of improvements. We’ve made the car better, and we’ve made our crew better.
I’m very proud of that. And I think we’re going to do well in Monza.
About the Track, Temple of Speed
Monza is a major track, the Temple of Speed. It’s one of the most famous tracks in the world. In a way, it’s a home track for us. In a way, it’s a home track for us. I think of us as having two home tracks: one Sebring, because it’s an American track, and the other Monza, because it’s in Italy, close to Podium, which is the engineering company for our road-legal and race cars, including the Baja Boot. We are thrilled and excited to be here again.

All the free practice sessions were quite good. We’re trying to understand how to set the car for Monza. The way we’re using the car is different from last year, because last year’s experience is not exactly relevant now. We had to work a lot to improve, but we had quite good feedback from the drivers and from the vehicle. In FP2 we focused more on race pace simulation.
For FP3 we put everything together to get ready for the race in general. The results from the free practices are never reliable; you don’t know what the other guys and the other teams are doing. You just have to focus on your feedback and your data and keep working hard. We are a wonderful team, and always trying our best.
