The fuel cell as an automotive drive type is on the decline worldwide. The battery car enjoys absolute priority in the world’s most important car markets in China, North America and Europe. It is all the more surprising that BMW is planning to use fuel cells as an alternative drive in its new generation of electric vehicles.
In the case of trucks, however, the race between battery drives and hydrogen-powered fuel cells is not yet decided. Vehicles with fuel cells are to be offered in the future, especially for heavy-duty trucks for long-distance journeys. In city traffic and in areas close to cities, however, the purely electric truck with battery drive should also prevail.
