With the eEconic, truck manufacturer Daimler Truck is putting its second series-produced electric truck on the road. The commercial vehicle manufacturer announced on Friday that the special vehicle for disposal companies will roll off the assembly line in the largest assembly plant in Wörth with immediate effect. The first customer is a waste disposal company in Denmark.
It is the second electric vehicle after the eActros truck, which has a medium range and is suitable for urban distribution traffic. Like this, the eEconic will cost three times as much as the conventional diesel trucks that have been used up to now. One battery charge should be enough for a full shift of the waste collector, which usually does not exceed 100 kilometers.
“Especially with regard to large cities, there is a need for quiet, clean and safe logistics and disposal solutions,” explained Ralf Forcher, head of the Special Trucks division. He did not name figures for expected sales. Apart from garbage trucks, the eEconic can also be used as a fire engine or for loading aircraft.
