Even though the taillights could’ve been better designed, the CLA Shooting Brake is a beautiful car for the compact segment. It’s also practical thanks to this particular body style, which features a 505-liter trunk as opposed to the 460 liters of the C-Class T-Modell.

Now in production in Hungary, the CLA Shooting Brake is manufactured by a “highly-motivated and well-trained workforce.” According to the site manager and chief executive officer, Christian Wolff, “these colleagues ensure that the success story of the CLA will continue at Kecskemét.”
Production at the Hungarian plant commenced in 2012, and these days, the A-Class and CLA Coupe are also built there. Starting in 2020, Kecskemét will utilize CO2-neutral electric power and the remainder of Mercedes-Benz plants in Europe will follow by 2022.
Coming with the latest version of Mercedes-Benz User Experience, the CLA Shooting Brake also features MBUX Interior Assist, gesture recognition, Energizing comfort control, and active safety functions from the S-Class luxury sedan. Since the originals were launched, both the coupe and family-oriented model totaled 750,000 sales.
The biggest market for the CLA-Class is China, followed by the United States and Germany. Across the Atlantic, CLA-Class customers are “on average around ten years younger than the average Mercedes-Benz customer.” Turning our attention back to the Hungarian plant, more than 4,700 employees are responsible for the production of more than 190,000 cars every year.
So far, the CLA Shooting Brake has been announced with eight engine options. The list starts with the 180 at 32,213 euros in Germany, followed by the 200, 220, 250, and AMG 35. Three turbo diesels are also available, namely the 180 d, 200 d, and 220 d. The AMG 35 is the most powerful of the lot, packing 306 PS and 400 Nm of torque from 2.0 liters of displacement.
The lineup will be completed by the 45 and 45 S, which utilize a 2.0-liter turbo four-cylinder engine capable of more than 400 horsepower. Now that sounds like a fun family car, don’t you think?
