10 “Auto Industry Execs” Comment On Tesla Cybertruck — CleanTechnica “Exclusive”

To try to get a better understanding of industry thoughts and responses to the Tesla Cybertruck, CleanTechnica spoke with 10 top executives in the pickup truck world. Below are their responses.
Jimmy Trupolute, CEO of Trucks Rock Coalition, responded without much concern and exuding gigaliters of confidence: “I’ve talked to my colleagues in the Trucks Rock Coalition and we all agree there is no need to do anything in response. Business as usual is the best approach, as usual. Appealing to sci-fi nerds is not in our scope of work and doesn’t need to be. Cybertruck will come and go with more of a whimper than a bang. The specs are only speculative and we don’t believe Tesla can meet them at the costs indicated. Actually, we’re comfortable waiting to see if Tesla can mass produce the truck at all, since our collective experience indicates that’s a no-can-do and 200,000 naive pre-ordering souls will soon realize that and be looking elsewhere — to us — to get their truck needs satisfied. Check back in again in 2021 or 2022 and you’ll find us grinning with big fat cigars in our mouths. You can’t disrupt with dreams, and you shouldn’t drop specs you can’t deliver!”
The CEO of BustaNut Trucks, Biff McBarra, told us: “Real mean drink diesel for breakfast. It’s in their veins. You can take the truck out of the monster, but you can’t take the monster out of the truck — or else no one will buy it.” Also, somewhat ironically, President of BustaNut Trucks Lucy “Lark” Leuss, stated: “Trix are for kids, and trucks are shiny and polished because real men like trucks that are shiny and polished. The Cybertruck doesn’t have all the features truck buyers want — diesel exhausts for rolling coal, shiny blue and red color options, normal door handles, SuperDuty cupholders. While Silicon Valley is good at cyber, we’re good at horsepower and princess wagon towing. We haven’t had any customers come and ask us for self-driving software, Netflix, or a solar panel tonneau. We’re not worried about this sissy girl stuff!”
The VP of Marketing at Turdola Trucks, Chris Crayola, responded to a general request for commentary on the Tesla Cybertruck by telling CleanTechnica that plywood, rocks, and bags of feces-manure are easier to load into the back of normal pickup trucks. Most importantly, it’s easier to make commercials featuring a flannel and a real-life version of the Brawny faux outdoorsy guy if the truck is colorful.
Bord CEO Frances McDormand said, “Bring it on! Just kidding. Haha. No, it’s a nice effort at industrial design and Star Wars paraphernalia, but we’re not concerned in the least. We don’t see it as a competitor to our award-winning, record-holding PowerTruck 1970 or PowerPowerTruck 2010. We expect very little crossover interest from our customers, who tend to be extremely loyal to Bord, and we are confident they wouldn’t even give the Cybertruck a second thought. It’s just too girly for their man muscles.”
Chesty Trucks President of Automotive Sales Bob Hanks indicated that he didn’t think the Cybertrunk was buildable, and questioned if it wasn’t part of a broad multi-decade pump & dump stock-trading scheme. Hanks told CleanTechnica, “I’m sorry, but you simply cannot mass produce stainless steel, and there is no machine on earth — and never will be one — that can produce that ‘exoskeleton,’ which appears to be something Elon Musk sketched while on a Moonhopper flight. To be honest, approximately 50% of the components of the Cybertruck have never been seen before, cannot be produced in this world’s current laws of physics, and appear to have been lifted from a video game toolbox.” Asked about sales forecasts for the company’s Pillorado in light of the new offering, Hanks indicated that they don’t expect any effect at all. (However, if Pillorado sales do tank, Chesty Trucks is screwed because they’ve ignored all indication of an electric future and don’t have a competitor of any sort prepped to go toe to toe with the robotruck.)
VP of Product Design at Le Land Luiser, Timothy Scott, had a somewhat shocking and then totally weird response: “Tesla Cybertruck? Never heard of it. Haven’t seen anything about it. No idea what you’re talking about. The only thing — [mysteriously sprints in the other direction].”
An anonymous Dam Trucks executive told CleanTechnica: “Completely off the record, I’m currently in the process of applying for a job at Tesla. My company is basically dead. This shit sucks. Hopefully Tesla will hire me, but I honestly don’t have anything useful to offer them. If this option falls through, I may become a truck blogger on some shitty site like CleanTechnica or do a season of Dancing with the Stars.”
Dummer CEO Dommy Dumphuk responded to our questions by asking questions in return. Mr. Dumphuk asked, “But where do you go for oil changes if Tesla has no dealers? And what if a bumper falls off — what’s the cost of repair? Also, can it be painted yellow? We hear it can’t. Why can’t you test drive one today? Is it a real vehicle, or is it a Kool-Aid-powered vaportruck that is only meant to inflate Tesla’s stock price for a couple more years until the whole house of cards collapses in insane fashion? Plus, who’s ever heard of an electronic vehicle that can drive in rain?”
True North Auto VP of Engineering indicated that the company applauded Tesla’s leadership in this field, but that his company was ready to demolish the Cybertruck on a local race track as soon as an actual human buyer can get one. We’ll have to remember that promise so that we can host the potentially epic race.

The Volkswagen Golf is one of the most popular mass-market cars in the world, and the question now is whether the Volkswagen ID.3 will democratize all-electric cars at a similar scale. However, in at least some places, prices are higher than expected.
Irish auto expert Bob Flavin got to explore and explain the Volkswagen’s all-electric showstopper. In general, it seems that he believes the VW ID.3 is a breakthrough, like the Volkswagen Golf before. Looking inside, “Digital dash, total digital dash gives me 350 kilometers of range, which is lovely as well. Just a really classy interior.”
The dialog of Bob Flavin, Ireland’s #1 car review on YouTube, moves quickly and is packed with good information as well as interior visuals of the breakthrough zero-emission model from VW. Also, he should be fairly informed overall on the issues and options. Electric and hybrid vehicles now account for over 10% of Irish auto sales.
Bob is bullish on Volkswagen. He believes, “Volkswagen is going to clean up the world and they are also becoming an energy company who want to take care of all your electricity needs. This car company really has the consumer in mind when it comes to financing packages and end to end means of charging.”
A hat tip is due to IanB, who found this story, and his big takeaway is noteworthy: the initial prices are not “democratizing” mass-market prices. He writes, “VW ID.3 Prices released for Ireland, SHOCKING!!!!!” Going on:
1st edition base model 40k euros
1st edition mid model 45k euros
1st edition top model 50k euros
So much for ‘a car for the masses’!!!!!!!
Importantly, these 1st edition prices are not the lowest the ID.3 will go. The 1st edition trim requires a bit of a premium. Once base trims arrive, the Irish will have cheaper options. That said, prices are not shown on the Volkswagen webpage.

Rezvani Motors Wants To Shoot Up A Cybertruck

In two Instagram posts this week, Rezvani Motors declared its desire to shoot up a Tesla Cybertruck with an AK (I presume 47). To be honest, seeing Elon and Franz beat up the Cybertruck brings out that inner devil child who wants to wreak havoc. The Cybertruck is tough enough to handle it, for sure.
Rezvani Motors posted the first Instagram post with a caption: “Hey @TeslaMotors at Rezvani Motors we don’t toss balls at our vehicles. We challenge you to a real ballistics test. Name the date, we’ll bring our 1000hp Military Edition TANK!” They also mentioned that it’s at the LA Auto Show until December 1.
Although they challenged Tesla, I do want to mention that perhaps shooting the Cybertruck on stage with an AK47 would not have been a wise thing for Elon or Franz to do, especially since there were lots of potentially innocent people around and a flying bullet could kill one of them. However, I am sure that Tesla would be down for this if done in a safe setting. I assume the placed shown in the second Instagram post (below) is such a setting.
The photo Rezvani Motors uploaded was a graphic of them shooting at one of their trucks, split with a graphic of the Cybertruck. This could be some serious fun.
One of the replies was about the cost of the vehicle, since the Cybertruck is $50,000 (I think he was referring to the dual-motor version with AWD). Let’s compare the $49,900 Tesla Cybertruck with the Rezvani 1000hp Military Edition Tank.
Rezvani vs. Tesla
Rezvani
This tank, with a Demon V8, starts at $295,000. Now, before you freak out at that price tag, remember this is a military-edition tank and not a car you would see on the highway. This tank comes with a lot of protection bangs for the buck, but then again, it is a military tank. Some features that I think are pretty rad:
Underside explosive protection
Thermal night vision
Electromagnetic Pulse Protection
It’s its own siren. (Tesla, this is my dark side speaking to you, I want my Cybertruck to have a siren!)
Strobe lights.
Intercom system (Tesla, if not the siren, then this for sure. Or wait, I can be a bit snappy with my words sometimes. Maybe not.)
Gas masks
First aid kit and hypothermia kit. (Louisiana doesn’t need the latter).
Smokescreen
I dare say it can take on Louisiana traffic.
The Engine
Yes, I know we are all about cleantech, but Rezvani takes pride in its engine, and for the sake of the reader’s clarity, we need to know what Tesla would be competing against. The engine is a 1,000 horsepower V8 engine from the Dodge Demon and is “capable of propelling TANK(tm) over any terrain.”
The Armor
Rezvani says that it has the “latest in ballistics armor capable of stopping high caliber weapons and assault rifles.” It also has its more sensitive parts — radiator, battery and fuel tank — all snuggly protected with kevlar. And it has its underside protected from explosive devices.
Tesla Cybertruck
Tesla Cybertruck with dual motors and all-wheel drive starts at $49,900. The range is 300+ miles. There is no monster engine here, since Tesla is first and foremost about sustainable energy. The Cybertruck doesn’t have a siren and, to be honest, I can grab a first aid kit at Walgreens if I need one. Tesla does have fart mode, though. Also, I really don’t need a tank. I’m not going to war. I’m a lover, not a fighter.
The Armor
The Cybertruck has its own armor, and it’s made not just with household stainless steel. The stainless steel is an alloy that SpaceX will be using for Starship. Elon also said that, “It is literally bulletproof to a nine-millimeter handgun,” so it may not take the heat from an AK47, but it still hands more than a Ford F-150, Ram 1500, or Chevy Silverado. We could still try out an AK47 on the Cybertruck, though. It could be fun. At the unveiling of the full-height Starship Mk1 prototype, Elon revealed that the Starship would have stainless steel for the outer shell. It will have additional glass tiles covering the layer for half of the spacecraft that will take on the highest heat from re-entry. The Cybertruck, unlike the tank, seems to be made for space rather than war.
So, Who Won This Comparison?
Well, when it comes to military-grade luxury tanks, Rezvani has Tesla beat. I love Tesla, am a fan, but Elon isn’t making vehicles to fight a war (unless you count traffic). He is trying to help humanity transition to sustainable energy. The average American going to and from work who may just want something different — or something with a myriad of benefits unseen in any other consumer vehicle — doesn’t need the Rezvani Military TANK. Sure, it would be handy in a car accident, but honestly, it would probably kill the other driver.
Personally, I would still get the Cybertruck. It’s affordable and would still protect me if I was in an accident. Knowing the glass could crack but will most likely not shatter is a plus. However, if I were a criminal mob boss, I’d get that tank. Well, I’d get that tank and a Cybertruck. Both would be fun.
Speaking of fun, I challenge both Tesla and Rezvani to race at Nürburgring! Let’s do this!
