With the establishment of a world works council, the plants and suppliers of Daimler European standards will apply worldwide in the future. “What is special about Daimler Truck is that we have succeeded in extending the Europeans’ clear statutory information and consultation rights to countries outside Europe,” said Ralf Götz from the IG Metal according to a statement on Monday. This is “exemplary and of the greatest international relevance with regard to the enforcement of human and trade union rights”.
After the spin-off from the former Daimler group, international employee representation at Daimler Trucks was established last week. A total of 23 countries are represented in the European and World Works Council, it said. The Dax Group operates more than 40 locations worldwide and is represented by sales and service points in most countries around the world.
Together with international trade unions, the new body offers “a strong platform for enforcing employee rights right down to small Daimler Truck suppliers and for protecting human rights in the supply chain as a whole,” explained the Chairman of the General Works Council at Daimler Truck, Michael Brecht (57).
Brecht also recently called for equal opportunities, namely with the USA and China. Brecht, who also sits on the supervisory board at Mercedes-Benz, advocates in-house cell production Germany a. “We need our own plant in every market we are active in.” Brecht was already head of the works council for the entire Daimler AG group from 2014 to 2021.
