Tesla is planning a multi-million dollar expansion for its new Gigafactory in Texas. The electric car maker has submitted an application to the responsible authority of the US state, which provides for an investment of almost 776 million dollars in the factory, as Reuters reports, citing the application. Tesla was initially unable to comment.
Five additional plants are planned – among other things for the testing and production of battery cells, the production of cathodes and drive units as well as a plant for tool making, adds CNBC

In December, the “Austin Business Journal” reported on Tesla’s plans and applications. As a result, Tesla plans to significantly increase production of its Model Y vehicle in Texas this year. Tesla is expected to hold its investor day at the plant on March 1 and announce its plans for the expansion.
In May last year, after Tesla opened its Austin plant and another vehicle assembly plant near Berlin Germany had opened, designated CEO Elon Musk both institutions as “gigantic money incinerators”.
Tesla boss Elon Musk officially opened the Texas gigafactory in April 2022 with a big party for shareholders and fans. Today, Austin makes some of its Model Y crossover utility vehicles and plans to mass-produce its Cybertruck, an unconventional pickup, there as well.
