According to its boss Marcus Duesmann, Audi is planning to build an electric car factory in the USA in view of the IRA subsidy package. “We have not yet had a factory in the USA,” he told the “Frankfurter Allgemeine Sonntagszeitung” according to the preliminary report on Friday. “With the US government’s Inflation Reduction Act, building a US plant for electric cars has of course become extremely attractive.”
It is unclear whether Audi will build its own plant or within the Volkswagen group. Both are possible, said Duesmann, a joint plant with VW is likely. “In the future, the Volkswagen Group will probably build more cars for the US market there than before.”
Among other things, the IRA promotes the settlement of electric car and battery cell factories in the USA. In Europe, concerns about a migration of factories have fueled.
