How do you advertise a likeable car? With a sympathizer. A decade ago, former national soccer player Mehmet Scholl, who was known as a television commentator for his snappy jokes, drove up to the golf course in the cute Dacia Duster. We don’t know what kind of vehicle the man had when he wasn’t out and about as an advertising uncle, but somehow the combination fitted.
Things have been quiet around Scholl since he left ARD, but the Duster, which has been in production since 2010, is still around. The design is distinctive and somehow timeless, we didn’t find anyone who found it ugly. After the most recent major revision in 2021, a retouch followed last year, the face with the distinctive LED daytime running light was subtly adjusted to the other models of the brand, the rear light has the distinctive Y signature. A new generation is slated to hit the market early next year, pre-production examples have already been spotted – as usual, it’s going to be a bit bigger, but fortunately it still looks like a Duster. What could be better about him is not yet known.
