German FAZ: Lots of hot air005725

Still no concrete alternative: The gas power plant in the Kalle-Albert industrial park in Wiesbaden.

While the planet is in dire need of cooling, industry cannot survive without heat. They generate it with natural gas. Nobody in the Rhine-Main region has a plan how to do without it.

Saving energy is not a virtue, it is a necessity. This realization has prevailed since it became clear that Germany can no longer rely on cheap gas from Russia. The high prices forced energy-intensive companies in particular to come up with something – also in the Rhine-Main area.

Examples: Infraserv Wiesbaden decommissioned two large air conditioning systems in the Kalle-Albert industrial park. In addition, all buildings were checked for heat loss and leaks in compressed air systems using sound and thermal imaging cameras. These methods were also used in the Wolfgang Industrial Park in Hanau. A natural gas boiler there, which normally runs in stand-by mode as a safety net in the event of the failure of other steam generators, was also completely switched off for the summer months. According to the industrial park operator Evonik, this alone saved 1000 megawatt hours of gas, “which corresponds to the annual heat requirement of 100 households”.
