German Manager Magazin: Michael Brecht, head of the Daimler Truck works council, fears for jobs002467

From the point of view of the head of the works council of the commercial vehicle manufacturer, the subsidy policy in the federal government and in the EU is a threat Daimler Truck Thousands of digits. “When politics is in Germany and the EU continues like this, I see black for the jobs – especially in today’s strong industrial regions,” said Michael Brecht of the “Badische Latest News”.

How important investments are for the competitiveness of an industrial location in an emission-free future is reflected in the aggressive funding policy of the USA clearly. “I’m not sure if we Europeans heard the shot,” said Brecht.

On the one hand, the USA offers attractive framework conditions for high investments in key technologies thanks to a quick and simple subsidy policy. “On the other hand, there is a bureaucracy in the EU that discourages companies,” he said.

There are practically only subsidies for supposedly structurally weak regions, explained Brecht. “So if we at Daimler Truck want to set up battery cell production close to where we are today, it is almost impossible to get funding that is attractive enough compared to other regions.”
