Dear reader,

the majority of car manufacturers are now putting everything on electric. Can this go well? Mercedes boss Ola Källenius (53) slightly corrected his course at the general meeting on Wednesday. In fact, by 2025 at least half of all new Mercedes cars sold should be electrified.

Now Källenius has postponed his goal to “the middle of the decade”. That means “as of today”: 2026. Mercedes has to catch up, especially with pure electric cars. In 2022, they accounted for just 5.8 percent of brand sales. Far less than at BMW. Perhaps the people of Munich are not approaching the e-transformation as defensively as many believe?
