In a voluntary move, Hyundai Motor, BMW Korea, and three other companies have announced a recall of more than 92,000 vehicles to rectify faulty components, according to a statement by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, and Transport on Wednesday.
The companies involved in the recall are Mercedes-Benz Korea, Volkswagen Group Korea, and Stellantis Korea, collectively recalling a total of 92,088 units comprising 116 different models. Stellantis Korea is a joint venture formed through the merger of US carmaker Fiat Chrysler Automobiles NV and French automaker PSA Groupe, as reported by Yonhap news agency.
The recall has been prompted by various issues found in the vehicles. BMW‘s 520i Luxury sedan is affected by software problems in its instrumental panel, while the Volkswagen ID.4 SUV model faces software problems in its steering mechanism. Hyundai‘s Palisade SUV has a faulty brake vacuum pump, contributing to the recall.
Last month, Hyundai Motor, Mercedes-Benz Korea, and five other companies had voluntarily recalled more than 320,000 vehicles to address similar component defects. The recalls encompassed problems such as a faulty safety belt system in Hyundai’s independent brand Genesis’ G80 sedan, software issues in the electronic stability control system of Mercedes-Benz’s S 580 4MATIC sedan, and a faulty fuel tank connection pipe in the Ferrari 296 GTB imported by FMK.
