By 2030, the federal government wants to put 15 million electric cars on the road. If things go as sluggishly as they have up to now, it will not work.

The traffic light coalition ruling in Berlin formulated the big goal crystal clear back then, in its energetic early days. “We will align the framework conditions and funding measures so that Germany is the lead market for electric mobility with at least 15 million electric cars in 2030,” says the red-green-yellow coalition agreement of December 2021.

The car nation Germany with its proud manufacturers should become an international pacesetter for the farewell to diesel and petrol engines. The goal must be achieved so that Germany can achieve its climate protection goals in transport, was the announcement.

Today, a good year and a half later, a good one million fully electric cars are registered in Germany. That is only 2 percent of all vehicles. Volkswagen is curbing the production of electric cars at its Emden plant due to weak demand.
