Porsche sold significantly more sports and off-road vehicles in the first half of the year. From January to June, 167,354 vehicles were delivered – around 15 percent more than in the same period last year, as the carmaker announced on Wednesday in Stuttgart.
As a result, sales increased worldwide. “After the first six months we can be satisfied with our delivery result,” said sales manager Detlev von Platen according to the announcement.
In Europe and on the home market, Porsche AG was able to record the most growth. In Germany, the number of vehicles delivered grew by a good 24 percent in the first half of the year.
In the rest of Europe, the company, which is majority owned by the Volkswagen Group, sold around 23 percent more cars. In the most important market, China, sales increased by around 8 percent and in North America by around 12 percent.
The SUV models are particularly popular with Porsche customers: Porsche sold 26 percent more of the compact SUV Macan, and the Cayenne went up 12 percent. The 911 sports car model was also very popular with a sales increase of 21 percent.
The all-electric Taycan, meanwhile, sold weaker, down 5 percent to 17,991 vehicles. The reason for this was that the Taycan was more affected than other series by a lack of parts availability, it said.
