Motorcycles are getting faster, riders are becoming more daring and accidents are becoming more frequent: MotoGP is trying to balance show and safety – and is looking for a solution to the problem.

The lungs were crushed, eight bones broken, including the jaw and three vertebrae. Sleepy nerves, paralyzed muscles and more. Pol Espargaró got it bad. Since the Spaniard crashed badly in Portimão last March, he has not been able to compete in a MotoGP race. Now he wanted to return to the Sachsenring this weekend after months of rehabilitation, but the doctors put their thumbs down. Too dangerous, the back has not yet sufficiently healed.

So again the KTM reserve driver Jonas Folger was allowed to drive the GasGas machine. He transferred his girlfriend Anna on her 30th birthday. Even though Folger dropped out in the sprint race on Saturday and came last in the main race the following day, the Bavarian at least survived the weekend unscathed. That means something in the MotoGP of the year 2023. It could be seen again at the Sachsenring.
