Tesla gets reinforcements Germany: The electric car manufacturer has the German manufacturing specialist Michael Schmitt from the car supplier Bosch poached. As the new “Director Operation Gigafactory”, Schmitt has been in charge of Tesla’s production from Texas since July, as well as his Linkedin profile
emerges.
The doctor of physics worked for Bosch for around 25 years in increasingly senior positions abroad. Most recently, Schmitt managed the operative business in North America at Bosch Rexroth, the drive and control technology subsidiary of the industrial group. Previously, he managed four automotive plants in Mexico and the United States for more than four years USA in the field of electric drives and powertrain solutions for Bosch Mexico. Previously, the blog “Electrek”
reported on the staff.
It is not known whether Schmitt’s new job at Tesla will be limited to North America or global. In Texas, Tesla maintains a gigafactory where the carmaker produces the Model Y for the US market. In the future, the Cybertruck will also roll off the assembly line there. Tesla plans to open another factory in northern Mexico.
Schmitt should probably do that Tom Zhu (45), the number two at Tesla behind Elon Musk (52), who joined earlier this year in addition to his role as Chinaboss also oversaw the US assembly plants and sales activities in North America and Europe.
Musk recently lost one of his most important managers. Longtime CFO Zachary Kirkhorn (39) left the electric car manufacturer after more than 13 years.
