The IAA Mobility car show is spread over Munich’s most beautiful places in the city centre. The rush of visitors to the so-called Open Spaces is huge. The car manufacturers are happy, local politics is divided.

In the Munich Residenz, the former seat of the dukes, electors and kings of Bavaria, it is not Europe’s largest car company, Volkswagen, that has settled, but its rather unknown subsidiary Cupra. A mighty façade of copper and concrete catches the eye of visitors strolling through the historic gate to the Kaiserhof on this sunny Wednesday morning. It urges you to become a “Dark Rebel”, that’s what Cupra called his gloomy design study, which is remotely reminiscent of a Batmobile. The super sports car is constantly surrounded by a crowd of people.

Not only the VW managers are full of praise for the “Open Spaces”, which are an essential part of the IAA Mobility this week. Also at BMW, Porsche or Audi, those responsible draw a positive interim conclusion after only two days of the fair. No wonder, since the stands in the open air turn Munich city center into a showroom for the car industry for a week.
