Before the G-20 summit in New Delhi, the West is once again proclaiming India to be the next economic power. And once again the question arises: will the Indian dream finally come true?

India’s richest man stands in front of a camera and is almost bursting with pride. Mukesh Ambani has donned his lucky red and white checkered tie, which he wears on big occasions. His fortune is estimated at around $90 billion, making him richer than any of the richest Chinese.

In China, high-speed trains race through the country at 350 kilometers per hour. In India, the fastest train doesn’t even chug along half as fast. Nevertheless, Ambani had one of the old locomotives projected onto the screen behind him. Crowds of young commuters are shown streaming towards their morning work in one of the country’s megacities. “This is the new India,” says Mukesh Ambani. “This India is unstoppable. It doesn’t take a breath. This India doesn’t give up.”
