Dear reader,
Since the diesel scandal swept Martin Winterkorn (76) out of office at Volkswagen in autumn 2015, the former boss has largely disappeared from the scene. Visits to the FC Bayern Munich footballers here, a detour to basketball there – “Wiko” saved himself any major appearances.
On Wednesday he was the focus again. Winterkorn was called as a witness before the Braunschweig Higher Regional Court; investors are demanding compensation from Volkswagen. As expected, he denied any guilt: “I neither requested nor encouraged this function nor condoned its use.”
Winterkorn has nothing to fear from the Braunschweig Higher Regional Court. Things could get more difficult for him in the fall, when he may have to defend himself as a defendant before the Braunschweig regional court.
