There will be no panda picture with Stephan Weil. Lower Saxony’s Prime Minister laughs his father’s laugh when the conversation turns to the photos of his Bavarian counterpart Markus Söder from the CSU. During a recent trip to China, he had himself photographed with the animals at a panda breeding station and attracted some ridicule. Weil is in a good mood. During a walk through the former French Quarter in the center of Shanghai, the SPD politician threw his jacket over his shoulders. In front of a real estate agency that advertises hundred-year-old European-style villas worth millions of euros, he points to a photo and jokes: “That would be a nice Lower Saxony representation.”
