30-year-old Mohamed Amra is now France’s most wanted criminal. And more and more disturbing details about his machinations, his time in prison and his escape are becoming known. 400 police officers are searching for him, Interior Minister Gérald Darmanin said on the radio on Wednesday. The shock in the country is deep at how helpless the police and correctional officers were at the mercy of the attack by an armed commando the day before. The attack occurred at a motorway toll station in Normandy. With a black Peugeot, the crime squad rammed the white Renault van in which Amri was being taken from the prison in Évreux to a court date in Caen. The black-masked men shot cold-bloodedly at prison guards and security forces. Two of them were killed and three others were injured, some seriously. The men set the car on fire. They then fled with Amra in another car.
