German FAZ: Punching and stabbing about the Taxi007126

The classic taxi industry has been under pressure for years. The yellow and beige radio taxis have only recovered slowly from the onset of the corona pandemic. At the same time, new rivals such as the US provider Uber have tried with all their might to gain a foothold in Germany. Now the market is moving. After the city of Berlin took a number of “rental cars” with non-licensed drivers from Uber, Bolt and Co. out of circulation, taxi drivers are hoping for more business. The same applies to digital platforms that arrange their trips. “We see significant growth potential in the taxi market,” says Thomas Zimmermann, head of the ride broker Free Now. “We have always said that classic taxis are superior to the competition when there are fair conditions for everyone.”
