Concerns about a trade war with China are growing in the German auto industry. Europe’s largest car manufacturer Volkswagen, for example, has been warning the EU Commission for months about the introduction of punitive tariffs on Chinese car imports. They could trigger a “fatal dynamic of measures and countermeasures and result in an escalation of trade conflicts,” says the Wolfsburg-based company, which has a dozen factories in the People’s Republic.
