German FAZ: Audi awakens007329

The most surprising news in itself is not that a fresh middle class is warming up in Ingolstadt. Rather, how Audi has survived for years in sheer invisibility. Such agony would previously have led to cold-smiling mass layoffs at management level in the VW Group. At least there is a new chairman on deck, and he has land in sight in the form of the A5 as a sedan and station wagon, Q5 as an SUV and A6 e-tron as a station wagon and sedan with electric drive. Audi has cleared a lot of those plans that never promised a head start anyway, but the manufacturer is unfortunately sticking to the renaming of the series. So what is now presented as the A5 is in itself the A4 family. But in the future, even numbers will indicate fully electric vehicles, odd numbers will indicate partially electrified combustion engines, and the A5 will merge with the A4 anyway, making both of them the A5. Understood? After all, the crude and incomprehensible additional names that were used for a while are history; a petrol engine is again called 2.0 TFSI and a diesel is called 2.0 TDI. What a blessing.
