Every few weeks, batteries cause excitement on the stock markets. Then another car manufacturer announced that it would soon be bringing an electric car with a range of more than 1,000 kilometers onto the market. Or an Apple supplier reports that it has achieved a technological breakthrough in batteries. The solid-state battery is almost always behind such news, a technology into which hundreds of millions of euros of research money have now flowed around the globe – and which is still not produced in large quantities anywhere.
