In Germany There is currently little interest in new electric cars among potential buyers. In July, almost 40 percent fewer pure electric cars were newly registered than in July 2023. In the entire EU, however, it is the Munich car manufacturer BMW managed to increase deliveries of electric cars last month. For the first time, BMW even has more battery-powered vehicles than Tesla sold, reports BloombergÂ
.
According to the consulting firm Jato Dynamics, sales of fully electric BMW vehicles in the EU rose by around a third to 14,869 cars in July. Tesla deliveries, however, fell by 16 percent to 14,561 vehicles. However, Tesla has still sold the most electric cars in the region since the beginning of the year.
Demand in Europe is decreasing
The demand for electric cars continues to cool down in Europe after countries such as Germany and Sweden can no longer apply for government funding for electric cars. Overall, European car buyers registered 139,300 new electric vehicles in July, a decline of 6 percent compared to the same month last year.
BMW was able to thrive thanks to robust demand for electric vehicles such as the i4 and iX1, which sold better than comparable models Mercedes and Audi, bucking the trend. Tesla’s Model Y remained the best-selling electric model in Europe in the first half of the year, but deliveries of the four-year-old model are declining.
