There has been criticism of online shops from Asia such as Temu and Shein for months. From customs and tax tricks to data protection and copyright violations to violations of European product standards and exploitative working conditions in factories – the list of allegations is long. German retailers are alarmed and speak of unfair competition conditions. Now German politicians are taking action: On Friday, the Federal Ministry of Economics published a draft of an online trading action plan, which, among other things, provides for more powers for surveillance authorities.
