The car should be exactly 3.595 meters long, have a wheelbase of 2.30 meters and offer space for at least four people. We’re talking about the Sachsenring Trabant. As the successor to the Trabant 1.1, the small car was supposed to come onto the market in 1993 at the latest and mobilize East Germans in a way that was new to them. With the change, everything changed. The new two-door car was almost finished. Matthias Kaluza, the last chief designer at VEB Sachsenring Automobilwerke Zwickau, designed new bodies for the Trabant and Wartburg brands – which unfortunately never went into series production.
