Pressure from Germany is growing on the European Commission to quickly weaken the CO2 requirements for the weakening automotive industry. In a joint position paper, the economics ministers of the federal states of Lower Saxony, Berlin, Saxony and Hesse, Olaf Lies, Franziska Giffey, Martin Dulig and Kaweh Mansoori (all SPD), call for the fleet targets to be adjusted in response to the extremely challenging situation in the German and European automotive industry.
