At least since the works council announced on Monday that Volkswagen was threatened with the closure of at least three plants and, instead of the desired wage increase, a wage cut of 18 percent, fear has been spreading at the VW locations. The Lower Saxony state government not only reacted to this news in a remarkably cautious manner, but also so late that the regional newspapers in the state had difficulty incorporating the statements into their current editions, which were always full of reports about the corporate crisis.
