German Manager Magazine: Daimler Truck: Rebuild, dismantle, build up – the plans of the new boss Karin Rådström003742

It was just seven days ago that Karin Rådström presented the quarterly figures for the first time as CEO. The results for the past three months were by no means sparkling. At 13.1 billion euros, consolidated sales are slightly below the previous year’s level (previous year 13.9 billion), as is the adjusted consolidated profit at 1.19 billion euros (previous year 1.34 billion) and thus also the adjusted return on sales of 9.3 percent (previous year 9.8).

In the medium term, Radström’s supervisory board chairman expects Joe Kaeser

(67) but more ambitious numbers from the new boss. Kaeser, head of Siemens for a long time, wants to catch up with the best competitors – and they make “not 10 percent, but up to 15 percent” return on sales, he said the day after their order. Daimler Truck is also lagging behind in terms of market capitalization at around 26 billion euros. The competition comes to 50 billion, so it is better by a factor of two.

Can Rådström and CFO Eva Scherer (40) meet Kaeser’s expectations? What’s next for Daimler’s successful Freightliner brand on the US market after Donald Trump (78) won the election?
