German FAZ: Ford wants to cut 2,900 jobs in Germany008194

The American car company Ford wants to cut more jobs in Europe, largely through layoffs in Germany. Ford wants to cut 4,000 of 28,000 jobs in Europe by the end of 2027, reports managing director Marcus Wassenberg to the F.A.Z. “Ford is making losses in Europe and cannot simply rely on the parent company continuing to finance its European and German subsidiaries without restrictions. That doesn’t mean that the Ford Group isn’t behind us, but there is a legitimate desire for us to be profitable in Europe and Germany. That also means reducing costs,” says Wassenberg. Wassenberg presented his plans to the car manufacturer’s European works council in Cologne on Wednesday morning. The production employees at this location have been on short-time work since this week because demand for the electric cars built there is currently too low.
