We’re talking about electric cars that can generate the electricity they need to drive themselves thanks to a built-in power generator. The drive form is also called a “range extender” – because it allows electric cars to have greater ranges without recharging the battery. For a long time it was considered a niche product. But now it could be the next big thing in the electric car market, advocates say.
