Germany’s largest steel manufacturer Thyssenkrupp Steel calls it a “comprehensive industrial future concept”, the works councils speak of a “brutal clear-cutting plan”: around 11,000 of the 27,000 jobs in Thyssenkrupp’s steel division are to be cut or outsourced by 2030, one location is to close, and costs are to be incurred sink – all of this has been on the table since Monday in the form of a key points paper. According to the new restructuring plan, production capacities are expected to fall to 8.7 to 9 million tons per year – which roughly corresponds to sales in the last financial year. The signal: There is simply no longer a market for larger quantities.
