VW employees’ concern for their jobs is understandable. However, the strikes announced for the coming days will not change the company’s situation. For years, the Chinese market proved to be a bonanza for German car manufacturers, allowing them to overlook competitive disadvantages in the German home market. But times have changed. The Chinese market has become considerably more difficult, and in Germany as in Europe the car industry is sluggish.
