Ford’s configurator is characterized by its pleasing clarity. And we suspect that we will soon see even more air on the site. Because anyone who offers an Explorer no longer needs a Mach-E. There are a few things that need to be clarified first. The Explorer is no longer an Explorer, any more than the Mach-E is a Mustang. Ford is resorting to horse-trading, which sounds more accusatory than it is intended. Most people understand mustangs as wild horses with sinewy, muscular bodies. The bloated Mach-E is far from that; its electric drive doesn’t make things any better. The Explorer, on the other hand, has previously appeared as a five-meter thoroughbred SUV, since 1990 as the successor to the Bronco in search of customers with adventure in their blood and ranch up their sleeves. So far, so outdated.
