The transmission system operator 50Hertz, one of the four companies responsible for the major German electricity highways, is demanding a change in energy policy from the future federal government. “We need an affordable network expansion that is based on realistic assumptions about electricity generation and consumption and not just on politically over-ambitious goals,” said the chairman of the management of 50Hertz Transmission GmbH, Stefan Kapferer, to the F.A.Z. The politicians’ calculations for electricity consumption are too high, the network expansion is proving to be oversized and too expensive, photovoltaics are getting out of hand and endangering the stability of the energy system. All of this drives up electricity prices.
