The first half of the 1970s were years of upheaval at Volkswagen. The legendary beetle and its derivatives were gradually sent to the old part, Passat, Scirocco, Golf and Polo took over. They laid the foundation stone for today’s size of the group. Even then, Audi was part of it, and even then it was about the now proven modular principle. The first polo was actually an Audi 50 that started in 1974 and was built in Wolfsburg. The Polo I was mocked as a stripped -down Audi 50, and rightly rightly.
