German FAZ: The shine of the four rings fades 008938

Company meetings at Audi were real feel -good events in the good years. The Audians in Ingolstadt were happy about the friendly words of their works council chairman and collected a rich success premiums. These times are over. After the diesel scandal, there were hard cuts with the once successful subsidiary of the Volkswagen Group. When the reduction of almost 10,000 jobs was even announced in 2019, it seemed like a shock. Audidass would repeat this scenario just a few years later despite the occupational securing that was negotiated at the time, nobody should have surprised anyone in the Audi workforce. At most: by 2029, 7,500 jobs at the German locations will be canceled outside of production. Celebrating sales in China at the first big clear session, the largest car market in the world is removed as a support this time. More on the topic of Audi boss within five years, the brand has adopted the four rings as a restructuring case. Since taking office, the former Porsche manager, who was sent by VW CEO Oliver Blume, has been in control of a rigid austerity course that is now being tightened. The company meeting on Monday, IG Metall celebrates it as a success that the latter has not occurred. The savings plans of the board are not the real problem. In fact, the four rings lost their shine. The brand released the advertising promise “lead through technology”, Audi stood for all -wheel drive and aluminum body. Innovative models are missing today, advanced electric cars and groundbreaking design are now even found with the cheaper competitors from the Far East. It fits into the dreary picture that Audi in China sends its latest battery car on the streets under a second mark – and does without the four rings. Audi boss Döllner has to deliver more than just new savings plans. Otherwise it should not take too long until the next company meeting with a new bad news.
